In the time from 471 until 494 A.D. the Sakyamuni cave was built. It has a central column and is also known as “stupa temple cave”. It is richly decorated and is certainly one of the most spectecular ones in Yungang. The square column in the center is 15 m high and was divided into two levels. Each side of the upper level enshrines a standing Buddha and two Bodhisattvas.
